Two years after the energy crisis, many households continue to pay excessive prices for energy. Sometimes four to five times as much is paid for electricity and gas than necessary, the E-Control regulatory authority said on Thursday. Many customers have not deliberately completed such expensive rates.
Some of them are overwhelmed by the subject of energy costs, E-Control Board member Wolfgang Urbantschitsch said on Thursday. Moreover, more than every second person would never have changed electricity or gas suppliers (52 or 54 percent). The savings potential was high in the first year with discounts for new customers and is up to 1000 euros.
Only about 30 percent would know how much they pay electricity for one kilowatt hour, with gas it is only 16 percent. The majority of the respondents only had the monthly or quarterly partial amounts in the E-Control Survey, which, however, say nothing about the actual costs.
In this context, the e-control recommends to change the annual account to twelve monthly invoicing. With electricity this is possible with the new digital points. Customers would notice the price faster in this way and can respond to it. In addition, the currently valid price of energy suppliers can be requested.
