British competition watchdogs are investigating Microsoft’s $70 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced on Wednesday that it now has until September 1 to decide whether the deal can go through.
The Phase 1 investigation by the CMA will either result in deal approval or proceed to a more in-depth Phase 2 investigation.
As part of the largest game industry deal in history, Microsoft announced in January that it would acquire Activision Blizzard, which sells popular computer games such as “Call of Duty” and “World of Warcraft,” for a total of $68. 7 billion (66.76 billion euros).
