Does everything become more expensive? No, it still exists, the place with cheaper prices than a year ago: the gas station. The refueling in Austria was cheaper this year in the first quarter than in the first three months of the previous year, the VCö calculates.
At about 1.58 euros, a liter of diesel was an average of approximately nine cents cheaper than 2024, Eurosuper with 1.55 euros cheaper than diesel and two cents cheaper than in the 1st quarter of 2024.
Fuel much more expensive in Germany
For comparison: in Germany, a liter of diesel cost an average of seven cents and a liter of Eurosuper with 22 cents more than in Austria, in Italy the price for one liter of diesel was on average twelve cents and for a liter of Eurosuper.
Diesel car consumes and costs more
The VCö refers to the number of Statistics Austria, according to the petrol cars of the households of Austria, an average of around 700 liters per year and the diesel cars flow around 830 liters of fuel. A price difference of nine cents per liter changes the fuel costs per diesel car by around 75 euros.
“The savings, which can be achieved by reducing fuel consumption, is much greater due to fuel-saving driving style and changed mobility behavior. For example, by walking short distances on foot or on the bike,” Vcö expert Katharina Jaschinsky emphasized on Friday in a broadcast. Moreover, the pace has a major impact on fuel consumption. According to the Federal Environment Agency, fuel consumption for cars drops on average by 23 percent at 100 km/h.
