Maul and Claw Disease – The First Countries stop importing meat from Austria

Date:

The mouth and claw disease in our neighboring countries now also have an impact on domestic agriculture: although no case has been proven in Austria so far, the first trading partners have taken precautions.

For example, the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom and Bosnia-Herzegovina, have imposed import on Austrian beef and pork products, as well as domestic raw milk, the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday. The duration of the restrictions is currently not foreseeable.

Japan: Embargo also on processed products
In the case of the US and Canada, the limitations were retrospective on 24 and 25 February – after this time from Austria exported products that are exported by Austria, may not be put into circulation.

The Japanese embargo is particularly strictly handled, which also spoke an import ban for meat and dairy products that were processed in Austria. In Bosnia-Herzegovina, the import ban only applies to Lower Austria and Burgenland, according to the ministry.

It is not possible to estimate how long the import stops will last. You are in “intensive exchange” with the respective countries.
