The most recently crising German car manufacturer Volkswagen is surprisingly growing production in the main factory in Wolfsburg. Burning models are being built there that have most recently experienced a small tree. However, this should not stop the job reductions.
In May, June and July, special services are planned in eight weekends, a spokeswoman for the group confirmed on request. Firstly, the “Wolfsburger Nachrichten” reported about it.
According to an internal message that is available for the German news agency, all production lines in Wolfsburg are affected. Especially the Golf and Tiguan models are built here. 16 Special shifts were only set in the assembly and more is added in the body construction and paint shop. This was justified with the “current program situation”.
High combustion demand
Unlike in the pure e-car factories Emden or Zwickau, only combustion models are built in Wolfsburg that are currently popular. In the first quarter, the Volkswagen brand sold a total of five percent more cars than a year ago.
Last year, VW had already built more cars in the main plant than in the weak in previous years, while laying at other locations, especially in the electric models.
Tens of thousands of jobs have threatened
It was only in December that VW and IG Metall corresponded to an extensive savings program, including job losses and melting overcapacity. 35,000 of the 130,000 jobs in Germany must be eliminated by 2030, the technical capacity in the main factory of more than 900,000 cars per year fell to less than 600,000. Golf production is intended to transfer Wolfsburg to Mexico, in exchange to get new e-models from Zwickau.
The main factory has not been used in full: 523,000 cars were built there last year, and less than 500,000 in previous years. According to earlier information, this should be a maximum of 600,000 this year. In Wolfsburg, VW mainly produces for the European market.
Exports to China and the US hardly play a role here. In addition to Golf and Tiguan, the Touran and Tayron models are also being built. The Tiguan has been the best model in the group for years.
