The 17-year-old Florian from Kirchschlag in the Wiener Neustadt district has already sent more than 160 applications since Easter 2024, but he only received cancellations. His wish would be an internship as a car mechanic, but he also shows talent and interest in other craftsmanship.
He completed the Polytechnic School in the previous year. “Not so bad, only two three,” said the shy but very personal teenager. Already in the spring of 2024 he started sending applications. A total of 160, including around 100 vehicle companies. Despite a few internships and also successfully completed the recording tests, he had only canceled for him.
Mother suspects special school past as the reason
His mother is also sad that Florian is still unemployed. “The boy had a difficult start of life. Due to the lack of oxygen at birth, it took longer to learn, that’s why it went to the special school,” said mother Elisabeth. “In the meantime, however, you no longer notice its development residu.”
She suspects that at that time it is visiting the special school that prevents potential employers from hiring Florian. “Although he did well in the Poly last year,” said the mother.
Florian is currently ‘taste’ in a protected workshop in Wiener Neustadt as a gardener, whom he actually really likes, because he would also be open to other internships.
Unfortunately more education seekers than free learning places
In the Wiener Neustadt district, 54 free apprenticeships are currently on 111 looking for apprenticeships, two of them even as a car mechanic. The Labor Market Service (AMS) advises: “Do not throw the hunting rags into the grain with which AMS -contact person arranges a personal consultation appointment in the Professional Information Center and are absolutely necessary for a student”, as well as: “Discover your own suitability and also try new and unknown training -there are around 200 interesting students.”
