Water brakes dryness: after a low rainy winter, spring is also one of the driest in 100 years. More wind energy can reduce dependence and close the power locations, says it from the network.
The composite generation from hydropower currently reaches around 80 percent of the long -term average. However, less water does not automatically mean less electricity, the group stated: “With falling water level, the fall height increases, the loss of generation is limited.”
However, the network warned that production generally postponed. “Male -made warming of the earth brings extreme events such as dryness and heavy rain,” said it. The electricity gap is currently covered with pump shops, gas factories and import. An extension of wind energy can reduce dependence in the future.
With the energy of Austria too, there is currently no worries. The water guide is subject to natural fluctuations, a spokesperson emphasizes. According to the legal authority e-control in January 0.98 and 0.86, the power coefficient of the current power plants was 0.86. Values for March are not yet available.
Water guidance regionally very different
A different picture is shown regionally: Vienna Energie reported that production depends on the location in various ways. “We can’t make a general statement here,” said a spokeswoman. 2024 was a particularly good year for hydropower.
In the lower Austria, the low rainfall is reflected in electricity production. According to the listed energy supplier EVN, production was up to 50 percent due to expectations in individual months. The subject is also relevant for drinking water supply. “The water levels in our fountains are currently stable and we see ourselves well equipped for the summer,” the company said.
Compensation by storage plants or import of electricity
In Tyrol, Tiwag spoke about “under -average drains”, especially in the inn in the lowlands. In Oost -Tirol, on the other hand, the situation corresponds to the long -term average. Missing electricity would be compensated by memory or import, explained TIWAG. Fluctuations in hydropower are not unusual, it said.
In Vorarlberg, since the fall, drought has led to low water levels in rivers and Lake Constance. The energy supplier Illwerke VKW brought the less production to around 20 percent compared to an average year, but the insured: “The energy supply is protected.”
More water with the start of snow melting
In Salzburg, water management is also under the plan. “We have had a fifth of less production since the beginning of the year,” said Salzburg AG. Melting the snow can relax a little. The Salzach water level is currently as low as it has not been since 1990.
In the upper Austria, Energ AG reported a deviation of around ten percent compared to the long -term reduction. “In the longer assessment we see no significant change in the amount of water, but shifts it in the year,” said a spokeswoman.
So far, Carinthia has not affected much. “Water guide at Kelag is currently 99 percent, that is, on average,” said press spokesperson Josef Stocker. Due to the few snow on the mountains, the snow melt could be weaker, but a wet spring could have a balance.
