At the end of 2023, the opaque Signa group collapsed. Since then, the life’s work of René Benko has by far marked the greatest bankruptcy in the Austrian post -war history. In total, the financing of 47-year-old Tyrolean has built up a debt mountain in the double digit billion dollar height.

Only a few weeks after the big bang the first horror numbers circulated: the Signa group with a total of around 2.2 billion euros is only in Krijt for Austrian banks. In the end, the Raiffeisen Banking Group, as the largest lender alone, would have been an impressive 1.2 billion euros.

In a hunting round with wolf
René Benko liked to use hunting invitations for network expansion. For years, the financial juggler was part of an elitist hunting round that regularly in. Private Jet or with the helicopter to Hungary, the Czech Republic or for hunting the Romanian Carpathians. Time and again: entrepreneur Siegfried Wolf and the former general manager of the Bank Austria and later Sberbank-Austria boss Gerhard Randa.

In Austria, the Signa Group liked to use hunting invitations for the property, the political and bank scene. You even did your own yacht, for example in Nickelsdorf, Burgenland.

There was René Benko there in May 2020, a few days after the end of the first Corona -Lockdown, with a prominent business manager of the Raiffeisen Empire in the competition. With Josef Pröll, once Minister of Finance and Vice Chancellor, today, general manager of Leipnik Lundenburger Invest AG, who is part of the Raiffeisen Group, LLI. This proves a photo documentation that the “Kroon” was played.
