“Roll up to us” – every fourth buys in China stores on the internet

They have only been on the market for two years, but 41 percent of the Austrians bought Chinese cheap online retailers in the previous year! Boys in particular use Temu, Shein & Co. Almost more than Amazon. Domestic business people push against these flood measures.

“Asian platforms overwrite us. This is not a healthy development for the Austrian trade,” warns Rainer Treelik, chairman of the domestic dealer. At the start of the previous year, “only” bought 35 percent of China dealers, at the end of the year it was 41 percent. In a short time, the China stores have added enormously: “We have never experienced anything like that.”

According to the Johannes Kepler University Linz survey, almost every third adult has already bought Temu in the last twelve months, 18 percent in Shein and ten percent of Aliexpress. With the young person up to 24 years old there are even two -thirds of the respondents, Platzhirsch Amazon is just a bit ahead for them.

And the next wave is already coming, because in Asia, the US and since March also in Germany, online shopping is enormously from product recommendations on social media. Tikkok in particular develops into a shopping platform. “It will be a Gamuchanger,” Treffelik is delivered.

Domestic retailers therefore urge rapid measures to protect local companies, especially at the EU level. To create more fairer conditions, the tax -free limit for packages from third countries currently 150 euros must be omitted immediately, this is only planned for this only in 2028. Moreover, the authorities must really enforce applicable legislation. In many cases, for example, prohibited, harmful substances are prohibited in China products.

“Ghost shops”
Moreover, the problem of “ghost stores” on Facebook and Instagram is unbridled. The alleged sales sale is advertised under plausible addresses such as “Schneider Salzburg” for dissolving business dissolution. But there are no deep prices. Until April to April alone, more than 36,000 of such fraudulent advertisements of 71 fake shops were found.

In general, however, the use of online orders 2024 has even been very easily purchased to 71% of the population, according to a study by the University of Linz. Above all, very young were a little less active. However, the total expenditure has increased somewhat to ten percent of sales in the retail trade – also because the stationary company has a minus.
