Too many obstacles in the way – Lego completely shuts down business in Russia

Date:

The Danish toy company Lego ends its commercial activities in Russia. The Lego Group has made this decision in light of continued significant disruptions to the work environment, a spokeswoman said on Tuesday. This also brings an end to the collaboration with the operating company Inventive Retail Group (IRG), which owns and operates the 81 Russian stores under the Lego brand name. Most of the workers in Moscow are being laid off.

The building block giant from Billund, Denmark had already announced in March that it would no longer send Lego blocks and sets to Russia because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The supply network was hit by the sanctions against Russia, but the 81 branches initially remained open, reports the Danish news agency Ritzau.

Operation previously “frozen”
Then, in early June, supply chain problems got so bad that IRG announced it would temporarily ‘freeze’ operations in some of its stores.

“Lego deliveries in Russia have been temporarily suspended and we are now only working with local stock. In this context, we are temporarily suspending the activities of some stores,” the operating company informed its customers by email at the time.
