The BRAU trade union is investing 5.5 million euros in the new city builder in Villach. The construction must be completed in the first half of 2026. The beer of this year’s church day was also presented.
“Beer is more than a drink, it is part of the culture, part of a lifestyle,” emphasizes Oliver Pliesschnig, regional manager of the Brau Union, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Brewery of Villach City. “The beer brewed here will be a taste experience that is rooted in a region.”
For 5.5 million euros, the new brewery must be built directly next to the Braugasthof within a year. The emission must be 7000 hectoliters – with special varieties it is now known that the “normal” Villacher -beer is produced in Graz.
“We will break a maximum of four varieties here with two Brewers, a maintenance -based, a student and I,” explains Braumeister Lukas Scharf. “Brewing two days, filling two days, cleaning one day – we create 25 hectoliters for each brewing process.”
All this will take place in a modern building with a glass facade (see visualization). “It’s about breaking open walls. The city builder should be a meeting place,” said the Meester Brewer. “We will offer training for beer sommeliers.”
The project naturally has the full support of the city. “We are at Villacher, something special can be brewed here,” Vice -Mayor Gerda Sandrienser emphasizes. “I ask that everyone is going to the subject of the City Brewery.”
As chairman of the Villach Church Day Association, she has a special interest in Villach’s brewing culture: “The new Kerkdagbier was launched in intensive cooperation. In the Blind Tasting, the winner almost unanimously overcome.” Ticking the ground and the first public tasting followed the pioneering.
