Some think of the rising temperatures in the outdoor swimming pool or a lake, others think of storm dangers-“With the great heat come the heavy rain events,” says Ralph Müller, general manager of the Viennese Urban. Serious weather damage came expensive than ever in the previous year. “The subjects will accompany us enormously in the future,” he is certain.
With 227 million euros and approximately 71,000 damage in 2024, the previous record year 2021 was again clearly surpassed – the highest storm damage in the history of the company registered the Viennese city in the previous year. “The Storm Low Anett with the flood of Boris only cost us 129 million euros in September,” says general manager Ralph Müller, who himself became a flood victim because Windows seemed to be.
“We assume that these topics will huge us accompany us in the future – heavy rain, flood, hail,” says Müller. This year the year was still quiet. “The damage usually increases in July, August and September – the thunderstorms also come with the big heat.”
Global warming leaves traces. “Austria is really exposed here. From the perspective of the insurance, the corresponding and management bar is, but the damage will increase,” said Müller.
Günther Erhartmaier, the state director of the insurer in Upper Austria, is aware: “We certainly have new damage – phenomena – this affects people and also as insurers. People have water where there is no running water nearby.” Müller adds: “It can really happen everywhere and meet everyone.”
