Hungary, Spain & Co. – This year the euro is particularly worth it on vacation

Date:

If you can afford your summer vacation that is smart this year, you can afford it considerably more abroad than in Austria. According to the current “Holiday Seaeuro” comparison of the Bank Austria, the euro in some popular travel countries is considerably more worthy -especially in Hungary, Portugal and Spain.

“In the summer of 2025 in Hungary, about 50 percent more will be received from the most popular holiday countries than in Austria,” writes Stefan Bruckbauer, chief economist at Unicredit Bank Austria. In Portugal and Spain it is at least 30 percent, around 20 percent in Greece and Slovenia. The euro also offers a purchasing power benefit of around 10 percent in Italy and Croatia.

Euro hardly worth any more in Turkey
The situation is different in Turkey: due to high inflation, the euro there is hardly worth anything there this year than in Austria. And if you travel to Switzerland or the US, you have to dig deeper into your pocket: in the United States you get about 20 percent less for the euro and about a third less purchasing power in Switzerland.

The holiday remains really cheap Bulgaria – The Euro is worth 75 percent more there. In Romania he brings 50 percent more, about 30 percent in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Prices can vary greatly
Bank Austria, however, points out that the information is average values. Prices can vary greatly within the countries. Compared to the summer of 2024, the holidays lost some value because inflation in some travel countries was stronger than in Austria.
