Staying a week in one place is no longer trendy. For this, several short breaks are now better done, with the costs that you are on the brakes! This development also requires the tourisms in the country that have to adapt to the new travel behavior. In the upper Austria, cyclists are becoming increasingly popular as guests – read why this is the case.
Along the Danube bicycle path, on the many e-bike routes in the adjacent regions, on targeted mountain bike paths on the Pfenningberg in Linz, on one or more day tours in the Salzkammergut-and your steam in the upper Austria wants to leave on two wheels. “Activities such as walking, mountain climbing, cycling and mountain biking are very popular with our guests,” says Markus Achleitner, state council of economics and tourism.
More arrivals, more overnight stays will stay
With 3.2 million arrivals and 8.85 million overnight stays, the state of the ENNs included in the previous tourism year, which lasted from November 2023 to October 2024. A development that cannot become blind and continues to concentrate on the expansion of a year -round, sustainable quality tourism that is supposed to bring further growth.
The trend to short breaks continues and cannot be stopped. At the same time, cycling is one of the most popular recreational sports of the holiday guests in Upper Austria – and that is exactly what you want to benefit from. Because: bicycle and cycling holidays remain more than average compared to the other travelers. 40 percent check between four and seven nights, 19 percent even between eight and 14 nights, a study by Tourismus Monitor Austria showed. For comparison: the average duration of stay during a holiday in the upper Austria is 2.63 nights.
The expenditure is 210 euros per day and head
Even with the expenditure per head of the population and the day, the wheel guests compared the front with the average Upper Austriavakant: one day is correct with 210 euros, which is more than 27 euros than the others.
Both circumstances that promote the expansion of offers and that are already implemented with the investment in a new 4-seater chairlift on the Wurbaukogel in Windischarsten and the expansion of the bicycle park. The cable car must also receive a special device for the safe transport of bicycles. “Valuable impulses also come from the bicycle community itself,” said Achleitner.
