Due to the controversial subscription model for Facebook and Instagram, Meta threatens extra penalties in the European Union (EU). The changes announced by the American internet group are not sufficient, the EU committee warned.
Money could be imposed further from 27 June. Meta replied that the adjustments went beyond the legally required extent. The American group feels discriminated against by the EU authorities.
200 million fine imposed
A few months ago, the EU committee had deposited a penalty of 200 million euros for violating the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Stone of the Kick-Off are the costs that users of Facebook and Instagram have to pay for an advertising-free version of the online network and the photo platform.
In the case of continuous violations of the DMA, there are extra daily fines of five percent of the average worldwide turnover.
The American iPhone provider Apple, who was diluted together with Meta at that time, wants to divert money compared to changed business practices in the App Store.
