The “old brewery” in Frauenkirchen in Burgenland has been modernized. The inn was built in 1680 by Prince Paul Esterházy. The historic house is the last traditional tavern in Frauenkirchen and must now be rebuilt and the future fits.
In 1962, Paul and Marianne Püspök took over the Püspök family in 1970 and gave the restaurant the current name “Altes Brauhaus”. In 2004, daughter Ilona took over as peppers. Subsequently, from 2015 to 2025 the guest couple Katharina and Daniel Hickel formed the restaurant. However, the existing lease will expire at the end of this year.
December closing time for the conversion
For the Püspöks time to renovate and modernize the “old brewery” completely. “The house is partially mentioned,” they say. “Only the parts that are not protected are converted. This needs many planning skills and consideration.”
The City Café, which will close on August 1, also includes the gastro complex. The bowling alley is history, the rooms of the café are included in the brewery. A new, modern kitchen must be made here. In addition, the Arkadenstüberl are expanded and the toilet facilities have been adjusted. Moreover, a residential building is converted into a staff home.
The “old brewery” closes on December 1 and the renovation work must be carried out in the winter. “We ask our regular guests and friends for understanding the closure. But this should guarantee the existence of the restaurant for the coming decades,” said the Püspöks. In May, the “Old Brauhaus” should open in a new form and with a new tenant.
