After the quiet years of the pandemic, the Carinthian companies again showed a strong sign of life in 2021. In some markets, exports even increased by 130 percent.
All in all, Carinthian companies export more than eight billion euros. “Our rapid market offensive has paid off, especially in the Alpine-Adriatic region, as evidenced by growth rates of 31 percent to Italy and more than 20 percent to Slovenia,” Jürgen Mandl, President of the Chamber of Commerce, proudly stated today: “An incredible proof of the strength of the Carinthian economy, to return to the record year 2018 despite all the uncertainties!” Only five federal states have a positive foreign trade balance – Carinthia is one of them with a plus of 516 million euros.
Carinthian export offensive
To cope with the difficult general situation and the downturn caused by inflation, commodity and energy prices, politics and business will work more closely in the future. “We are launching a strong export offensive”, confirms Economics Minister Schuschnig: “And in 2023 we will set up such a program again – not only for the Alpine Adriatic region, but also for Southeast Asia and the US, with the buzzwords green economy and diversification.”
alternatives to the United States
The US in particular is still a problem child after the trade dispute initiated by Trump. In 2018, second in export statistics, the US has now dropped to 11th place and is making no progress. “You can see how clear and long-lasting such differences are,” emphasizes Kircher-Schneider: “The trade agreement with Asia and Oceania has created alternatives. Exports to Japan increased by 133 percent last year.”
