More than 1,187 million combustion engines, 4,900 employees, invest on average of more than 1.6 million euros per day with superlatives, the BMW factory in Steyr scores, in which the production of electric engines is also ready to start. The second production line is already being built up.

Production for combustion engines is still a bank: in the previous year, 1,187 million petrol and diesel drives were eliminated in the largest engine factory of the premium vehicle manufacturer. At the same time, the production of electric motors is running.
About 500 million euros only flows to the construction of the two production lines for fully electric disks. The first rule has been in operation since September 2024 and is located in the test phase, which is called “pre -series production”. “We are already producing different variants of the electric motor in this phase-er are currently two different performance classes,” Helmut Hochsteiner, which leads the production of E-Drive in Steyr product.
More than 100 employees are currently working in production for the pre-series production of the electric motors. The system with an extremely high degree of automation runs from Monday to Friday, usually in the morning. Between 50 and 100 electric engines are currently produced in the period. The test phase on the first e-engine line will come to an end in the coming months and the series production starts here from late summer. The real operation of electric motors for vehicles of the “new class”, which in turn are produced in Debrecen/Hungary.
From April 2026, the second production line must also be fully used. In the coming months, more than 200 automatic stations and more than 100 workstations for manual activities will be built in Steyr.
