Undeclared work has increased compared to the previous year. In 2021, illegally employed people were arrested in agriculture in 2018 – 47 more than in 2020, according to the financial police, which conducted 469 agricultural inspections the year before.
“There is still a trend towards illegal employment and there is clearly a need for control,” Wilfried Lehner, chief of the financial police, told the “Kurier”.
Usually not just a black employee in the company
When undeclared work is discovered in a company, it usually does not concern one employee, but several. “When a company allows workers to be illegally employed, it is usually not an isolated case, but it affects multiple people,” explains Lehner. Illegal workers from third countries such as Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Afghanistan are often represented.
