If you like to go on an excursion, for example on vacation, the bottom line is that they usually travel much cheaper with discount cards.
Vacation time is travel time. The home country is still very popular. Tourism cards are the ideal companion for anyone who does not want to spend their holidays only within their own four walls. With the exception of Tyrol and Upper Austria, where there are regional maps, all states have maps to offer. The costs for this vary widely and range from zero to about €80 in season. But the included services are also very different. The NÖ-Card (€63/season) offers the most attractions with more than 300 destinations. “In theory, an adult can save a total of more than 3,000 euros in entrance fees,” explains NÖ-Card boss Klemens Wögerer. Admission is free, for example at Grafenegg Castle or at the State Exhibition of Lower Austria. But numerous mountain railways (eg Schneeberg, Rax, Hochkar) are also included free of charge. In addition, the card gives a discount on entrance to concerts or festivals, for example -10% on the Reichenau Festival.
More than 30 destinations are free with the Salzburg Card (eg €30 for a day). “If I use the Untersbergbahn and visit Schloss Hellbrunn or the Mozart Museum, I already have the prize back,” explains tourism director Bert Brugger. In addition, public transport in the city is also included. On average, visitors visited four to five attractions per day.
The Kärnten Card quickly paid for itself – despite just under €80 per season. “For example, the Pyramienkogel forest rope park costs €26, mountain railways between €17 and €32. I can use all of this for free with the card,” says Carinthia Card boss Anton Fasching. There are already 120 destinations in total, with a few new ones every year (e.g. Jump World One in Klagenfurt this year). In addition, you will receive discounts of 10 to 50% from about 60 partners (eg Donkey Park Maltatal, 1st flight Taxi Gerlitzen).
The Steiermark Card (€79) has been around for eleven years and offers free entry to 167 excursion destinations. In addition, in addition to a 30% discount with partners, there are also benefits when staying overnight in selected establishments (eg Das Eisenberg, Das Sonnreich).
Cable cars, museums, swimming pools, a total of 88 destinations are included free of charge with the V-Card in Vorarlberg for €78 per season. There are also 12 bonus partners, such as the historic Bodenseeschifffahrt, where children pay only half, or the Fohrenburg brewery (7 tours instead of €9.50 including drink).
The Burgenland Card, on the other hand, is free – provided you stay overnight in a partner establishment. Then there are more than 200 benefits, such as a €5 discount for the St. Margarethen Opera House, a 20% discount for the St. Martin Therme and Schloss Hof (-15%).
The Vorteilsclub Wien card is free for everyone. Here it is mainly discounts of 20 to no less than 50% that are associated with it. Half price is the order of the day in the Disco U4 or in the Badeschiff (-46%). At Circus Roncalli you pay 30% less, at Café Landtmann, at Eugen 21, at Die Laundromat, 20% is deducted each time you book in advance. There are plenty of 1+1 free offers in the Prater.
“The card gives you the key to the whole city. All attractions are included, including public transport.”
“With two or three more expensive excursion destinations such as mountain railways or forest rope parks, the card already pays off.”
