Criticism of the sharp rise in energy prices is now also coming from Caritas president Michael Landau. His appeal to the federal government: adjust social assistance and minimum pensions sooner. The AK also criticizes Wien Energie’s early price increases for electricity and gas. Meanwhile, the union is already preparing for the “hot autumn”.
The exploding bills for electricity and gas also make the President of Caritas very concerned: “If energy sources increase their prices from September 1, then the indexation of minimum pensions and social assistance, which is only planned for January 1, should be brought forward,” said his more urgent appeal to the government. Michael Landau fears “a wave of poverty as one-off payments will not be enough because inflation will hit not just once, but on every bill – at the supermarket, on every rent and every fee made”.
Wien Energie’s early rise in electricity and gas prices is also very problematic for AK Wien: “We urgently call on companies to refrain from hasty price increases,” said AK chairman Renate Anderl.
Union is already preparing for ‘hot autumn’
Meanwhile, the union is also active. ÖGB President Wolfgang Katzian mobilizes his 1.2 million members under the motto: “It is enough!”
