Fuel was more expensive than ever in March. The monthly average was 1,781 euros per liter of premium and at 1,868 euros per liter diesel was on average even more expensive than premium petrol. If you use March 2021 for comparison, Super has risen in price by about 46 percent and diesel by about 61 percent.
According to the ÖAMTC, from early to mid-March, diesel prices rose by about 50 cents and Super by about 40 cents per liter. As a result, car owners had to pay 25 or 20 euros more for a tank filling of 50 liters in mid-March than at the beginning of the month. “Fuels are and will continue to be a major driver of inflation in Austria,” was the summary.
By the end of the month, the situation had calmed down again, at around EUR 1.9 per liter of diesel and around EUR 1.75 per liter of super.
Price gap between the crude oil market and the price of a gas station
The ÖAMTC again refers to the price difference between the price of the crude oil market and the gas station prices: “Since the beginning of the year, prices for a barrel of OPEC oil in euros have increased by about 41 percent.
In the same period, however, prices at the pumps (excluding mineral oil tax and sales tax), for example diesel, rose much more sharply at around 53 percent.”
