About every third (29 percent) company in the Vienna Stock Exchange Index (WBI) has at least one woman on its board. The share is largest in the real estate sector, according to the Mixed Leadership Barometer of consultancy firm EY.
Every fifth board member there is female. In second place is the consumer goods sector (19 percent), in industry the share of women on the board is only 9.5 percent. In management, the situation is worse: only four women work as CEOs, four more work in support of management. This means that about every tenth person (9 percent) in boardrooms is a woman.
More women on the board of directors
According to consultancy firm EY, this is a new high. It looks better in the regulatory bodies. 30.2 percent of the 539 positions are held by women. The clear majority of companies (89 percent) have at least one woman on the supervisory board. The highest share is in the transport and logistics sector, followed by the energy and telecom sectors.
