Being born is the most violent and beautiful thing there is. A birth is a hand-casy of blood, of screams, of fists that the most hygienic and innocent are fed up with whiteness. To be born is a miracle, an improbable yet constant feat since the dawn of time. And that every step that leads to the delivery room, from the first and most obvious one you can imagine, is the result of a coincidence, as if someone tossed a coin at every decisive moment. Honey, you exist. Cross, I forgot. To breathe! Powerful! To breathe! Push! And suddenly, poof, you’re still alive.
‘The House of the Dragon’ started with a violent chapter. Very violent. But of all that happens, of all the cuts, cuts and scrapes, the wildest of all happens in a huge bed painted red by a woman’s legs. what a scene What a start. Perhaps the most honest beginning possible: a difficult delivery where someone is likely to get hurt. That delivery dictates the rules that will govern the journey from now on: to be born is to die and to write is to end.
I belong to that small entrenchment of inept people who cheered the ending of ‘Game of Thrones’. Even today, I still enjoy the final chapters, with the setback that the protagonists had for the spectators who, despite the eight seasons, did not see it coming. This is a story of good and evil that lives in everyone. A story of ice and fire. A balance that is inevitably broken every time someone flips the coin. And that will happen.
Returning to Westeros was as if we had never left it, as if not three years had passed since everything had burned down. What a pleasure to restore the habit of the night, of the old guard, to see the birth of a new story. A story as violent as it is beautiful.
