“I loathe nothing, but give me comedy”

Date:

The musician and actor Carlos Ruiz Bosch is used to sleeping in, he loves to party and tells it all in his new theater project ¡Chakapum!, in which rumba naturally plays a leading role.

Litus (Tarrasa, age 42), stage name of Carlos Ruiz Bosch, singer of the band of the old television program ‘Late Motiv’, was surprised to see his father playing the guitar as a child. From that moment on she knew what she wanted to do with her life: “have this good time”. His new theater project is a musical that begins with that anecdote. The mix of his taste for the party, his anecdotes and the history of the rumba have made ‘Chakapum!’ brought to life. From his time on the Buenafuente show, which disappeared in December 2021, there remain “wonderful experiences that allow me to do things like now.”

Monday

10:00 am. I was in Late Motiv for seven years. Because of my night job, I took advantage of the mornings to sleep. Now that I have a different rhythm of life, I sometimes wake up at seven or eight in the morning when something is on the agenda. But when I can, I stay in bed until ten o’clock. I like that the first hours of the day are mine. I usually don’t wake up hungry, so I have breakfast afterwards. Something sweet and a coffee.

11 a.m. Every week is a world, that’s what I love about my job. I’m doing the promotion

my shows on television, radio and press. I finish an interview and while I’m in the car to go to someone else, I talk to someone on the phone. This has been a non-stop summer, between rehearsals, musical planning and media meetings. I’m in a thousand places, but I like it because I present something I believe in.

1:00 pm. When I’m not doing theatre, I’m touring with artists or with my own records. I come from making musicals, so now it goes back to the past and recaptures that part of me. My relationship with acting has lasted more than ten years. When I made television, I combined it with two works.

23:30 I’m a big fan of artists like Gato Pérez, Los Amaya or Peret, deeply rooted in our heritage. As for me, I have been able to make a living from music and I hope to continue to do so. I give it my all in every show, which gets more and more personal. I try to make the audience tremble and the party of life cross the stage.

Tuesday

2:00. There were more than 1,000 programs with Andreu Buenafuente. I never thought there would be so many. It was a pivotal experience in my life that left me with wonderful memories. The first days I doubted whether I would really like it or whether it would be comfortable, and in the end I loved it. I had a lot of contact with people. It was like going back to my old job: pub singer.

3.30 pm My current project was conceived in the program. It came up about my rumba anecdotes. My childhood, my long adolescence, my family and my profession as an artist have to do with the party. The memories mixed with the history of the Catalan rumba and now we have a play well equipped.

10:30 p.m. When I was young and not yet a Litus, I felt older. Later I spent time in bars to sing, I like it and it is my essence, but now I enjoy it more because I understand it more. Everything remains from that time. What am I. Pubs were my school and my home. They are also a stage for the theater because you learn to interpret and develop. I couldn’t have performed without going through the pubs first.

Wednesday

8:00 pm. There are days when I rehearse non-stop, Monday through Friday. The show is demanding. When there is a lot of work to do, my body asks for a break. I am still young, but I am no longer a child. Lately I have become more athletic. I go for a run at night because the sun is out and it’s less stifling. But I give myself a lot of stick, so I’ve slowed down the physical exertion a bit.

9:15 p.m. When I’m calm, I like to read. I recommend the novel ‘2666’ by Roberto Bolaño. I think he’s a fantastic writer, I’m a big fan of his. When I read, I dive into the books, so I prefer it on a night when I’m not too exhausted to enjoy the story. I also usually watch series, although I come from the cinema, the new productions in this format are good. I look at everything, I loathe nothing; but comedy is the genre that appeals to me the most.

10:00 am I don’t refuse anything during lunch either. I am very meat eater, although I try to make the dishes quite healthy. I know that later I will burn all that I have consumed with the physical activity of rehearsals. Acting and singing presupposes the body.

Thursday

11 a.m. My relationship with music started when I was 12 years old. The revealing moment was when I had a table conversation and my dad pulled out the guitar and I was amazed. In fact, the play ‘Chakapum!’ they start exactly when I am that age and I tell about that moment. My family history is just an excuse to learn about the comings and goings of nomadic music.

12.00. In one of the presentations with the whole team, we got one of the best reviews. We were honored to have Peret’s daughter and grandson present and they told us they had laughed and cried. It’s gratifying to know that our work does justice to the effort it took us two years to put together. Go from ideas to the stage, play with them and develop them. Magic has been done with the lyrics and with the cast.

Saturday

4:00 in the afternoon. A musician’s weekends are spent rehearsing. I have always been self-taught. My father taught me to play the guitar and then I studied singing and music theory. It is important to know how to read and write to defend yourself in this area. This never ends, so I keep learning.

6:15pm Taking advantage of the summer I’ll be desperately looking for friends to go to all the pools I can. Although the visit to the beach is sacred in these months, I am already planning the trip.

11:00 p.m. I like the rumba. I am very party like my parents. Meet friends, have a nice dinner, pick up the guitar… Those encounters are the best. Eat well and then burn it by singing with the people you love.
