Awards for some of the most mature and original proposals on television

Saturated with dragons and rings, yet another attempt to squeeze out registered trademarks with no room for surprise, all you have to do is gleefully accept the Emmy Awards for some of the most mature and original proposals on television. Like the Emmy for Best Miniseries for “The White Lotus,” Mike White’s very awkward and gritty black comedy that shows no mercy on either the wealthy guests of a luxury resort in Hawaii or their workers. To make matters worse, the statuette has gone to the actors who embody two of my favorite characters: the hotel manager (Murray Bartlett), who relapses into drugs and alcohol pushed by his clients, and that mature cock who clings to the ashes of his mother (Jennifer Coolidge).

Michael Keaton has also won the first Emmy of his career for “Dopesick,” the chronicle of a town doctor’s confrontation with health traffickers who see drugs only as tools for making fantastic profits. A reminder that Keaton is an exceptional actor – notice his scenes hanging from the OxyContin – and that the United States has been waging a war on opioids for years that has resulted in half a million victims.

Another of my favorite Emmys is the one that Jean Smart picked up in the comedy actress category for “Hacks.” The HBO series pairs a naked-ass veteran, who’s been in the business for decades and still makes money in Las Vegas, and a young screenwriter ripped off by an unfortunate tweet, who’s forced to team up with the diva to breath fresh air to his repertoire of jokes. The second season, with a road movie format, hasn’t lived up to the first, but what a joy to watch the devastating Deborah Vance squander tons of lessons.
