A roundtable discussion about LA VERDAD’s journalist and art critic brings artists together in Abarán
The City Council of Abarán, in collaboration with the Cajamurcia Foundation and LA VERDAD, has organized the Round Table “Pedro Soler, Unforgettable”, which will take place next Tuesday (September 20) at 8.30 pm in the Library Municipal Don José Vargas de Abarán, located in the CIMA building. Moderated by the journalist Manuel Madrid, head of the culture space of LA VERDAD, artists Paco Cánovas, Miriam Martínez Abellán and Antonio Tapia will participate in the meeting.
The participants, who maintained professional and admiration and friendship with the remembered Pedro Soler -who died in November 2018- will remember his figure and the important cultural legacy he left as official chronicler of the city of Murcia, member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Santa María de la Arrixaca de Murcia, researcher, writer, art critic and journalist for LA VERDAD.
‘Perico’ Soler was much loved in his hometown of Abarán for his professional value and his human quality. Therefore, in 2019, the City Council launched a short story competition in his honor, which aims to create the literary and keep his memory alive. The competition is in its fourth edition this year and revolves around the world of journalism.
The following October 1 is the deadline to participate in the IV Short Story Contest ‘Periodista Pedro Soler’, a national competition that awards a first prize of 800 euros and two second prizes of 100 euros each. In addition, the winning writing will be published in THE TRUTH.
The works presented to this call, accessible to persons over 16 years of age, must be original, unpublished and have an extension of between 800 and 1,500 words. The jury’s decision will be made public on November 10, and the delivery will take place in Abarán before the end of the year.
