The author of the discovery José Alberto Fernández, doctor of art history from UMU, will present his conclusions this Saturday at a conference in Seville
The Doctor of Art History (UMU) José Alberto Fernández Sánchez presents this Saturday September 24 the authorship of the Virgen de los Dolores of the Monastery of La Encarnación (Algezares-Murcia) as the work of Francisco Salzillo y Alcaraz.
The details of the discovery will be on display as part of the ‘Mater Dolorosa’ International Historical Day in Gilena (Seville), where the work will be unveiled: a nearly life-size dress made around 1755.
The statue represents an intermediate step in the configuration of the classic ‘Painful Levantine’, made next to the famous statue of the Brotherhood of Jesus of Murcia with which it bears a close resemblance.
