Clement Olmo. Manager of Penaplast
Peñaplast’s raison d’être is the circular economy. The company, dedicated to the collection and processing of plastic waste for subsequent recycling, shares with the ideas competition ‘Esto es verde’ its interest in preserving an environment that, in the words of Clemente Olmo, the manager of Peñaplast, must be protected to “avoid the depletion of the resources that nature provides us.”
–
What values define Peñaplast’s work?
-Our commitment is mainly based on sustainability and the circular economy. In addition, we have a special commitment to our customers in providing a fast, quality and efficient service. On the other hand, our mission is to work with farmers and manufacturers to extend the useful life cycle of materials already used through recovery and recycling processes, thus working together to preserve the environment. In this way less waste is produced and the depletion of the raw materials that nature provides us is prevented.
–
What proposals would Peñaplast make in its field of activity? What goals are presented to you in the short and long term?
-Currently we are in a world in constant change and we are in a project of continuous improvement of our facilities, in which innovation is closely linked. We bring it to its maximum expression with a productive activity that uses renewable energy sources. In addition, we are improving and expanding the machinery and vehicle fleet so that we can increase the amount of managed waste.
We must not forget the protection of the environment in general, with waste management carried out by expert companies in the sector, who have machinery, equipment and qualified personnel. It is also important that companies are recognized as waste managers and that there is no unfair competition in this area. The installation of an extruder is expected to be completed early next year, which would increase our capacity for the production of pellets and thus a recycled raw material. On the other hand, we have drawn up an emission reduction plan together with Cetenma, so that our CO2 footprint is reduced. We are committed to implement energy efficiency actions in the offices we manage and to increase the implementation of renewable energy sources used in the production process, along with other improvements.

Are the Murcians aware of the importance of recycling? What can be improved in this regard?
-As far as our customers and suppliers are concerned, there is no doubt that they all know about recycling and waste management. We work together with the agricultural sector on the management and reuse of plastic materials, an action that we think is excellent. In addition, we have been able to create a high-quality recycled product and have been able to adapt to it for both manufacturers and users.
