Alejandro Amenábar presides over the jury of the music competition organized by the prestigious Jumilla wine group
“The Gil Soundtrack Award is a commitment to continue to support young musical and film talent,” said the jury chairman for the fifth edition of this competition, Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro Amenábar. The deadline for submitting entries for this call has already passed, in which composers from 28 nationalities participated.
The Gil Soundtrack Award, organized by the group Viñas Familia Gil, is an international prize for young composers between the ages of 18 and 35. The initiative was created in 2016 on the occasion of the company’s centenary.
It is biennial in nature, the largest prize of its kind in existence, is endowed with 50,000 euros and is unique in its category in the world. Its aim is to promote and appreciate the work and talent of young composers. From the total number of works presented, a committee of experts selects twelve finalist compositions that will be made public on 8 October. At that time, the finalists will be judged by the jury that will determine the winning composition.
‘Lo que sembras’ is the short film chosen in this edition to compose the soundtrack, a story full of emotions and feelings that represents the values of the Gil family, values such as tradition and the fact that the most important thing is to be part make a family, even if you weren’t born in it.
The title also refers to that popular saying that “what you sow, you reap” as the main character reaps what he has sown in life. The short film was selected from a previous scripting competition in collaboration with ESCAC (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya) and produced by a team made up entirely of students and graduates of the school.
Alejandro Amenábar, winner of an Oscar and seven Goyas, filmmaker and composer of film soundtracks, chairs a jury of exceptional quality. As in previous editions, the jury is complemented by recognized and award-winning professionals in the field of symphony orchestras, soundtrack composition, film and music production and distribution at national and international level, in addition to a member of the founding family of Viñas Familia Gil, organizers of the match.
In previous editions, major international figures have been on the jury, such as the Scottish composer Patrick Doyle, the American composer Bruce Broughton or the Icelandic composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, winner of an Oscar for the film ‘Joker’.
