Pilar Eyre: “The only thing I miss is my youth, it won’t come back”

Date:

Pilar Eyre Journalist and writer With “many wars to fight” still, de Barcelonan will report on her extensive literary work and her journalistic milestones this Thursday in Mazarrón

Pilar Eyre (Barcelona, 1951) has devoted himself to journalism and literature for decades. He has published twenty-two books and has worked for media outlets such as ‘La Vanguardia’, ‘Interviú’, ‘El Periódico de Catalunya’ and ‘El Mundo’. He has worked on television programs such as ‘Martian Chronicles’, ‘White Ants’, ‘What a happy time!’ (2010) and ‘La Noria’ among others.

If there’s one thing she’s become particularly famous for, it’s information about the Royal House for her. In some of his novels, he portrays certain key moments in Spain’s most recent history and has devoted books to the monarchy, such as ‘Yo, el rey’ (2020) -waiting for its leap into audiovisual production- or ‘La soledad de la Reina: Sofía una vida’ (2012), The journalist and writer reflects on her career this Thursday at 10 pm -doors open at 9:30 pm in the Mirador de Bahía, in Mazarrón, within the cycle ‘ Evenings with…’ of Mares de Papel’s programming, which is coming to an end.

Though he talks about his journey, he doesn’t like to take stock because “it’s a little more typical of people who have already reached their end, that is, who have no intention of evolving further and I wants to keep growing.” With “many wars to fight” he boasts that he hasn’t had a vacation in 40 years “because wherever I go I take my computer and I’m always writing, now I’m working on my next novel and I’m still active as a journalist.”

Since March, the author has been presenting her latest novel, ‘When We Were Yesterday’, in different parts of the Spanish geography, a story in which readers will be able to discover the evolution of Barcelona over more than twenty years, since 1968. A city in full expansion, full of contrasts, political struggles and Olympic hopes at the gates of 1992. «I did not see in any book everything that women experienced in those years in Spain reflected. They are capital years. The historical facts are recorded, but not our daily lives and the vision of women, all the taboos we had to break, how we fought, how we treated our parents, the Franco regime, our own colleagues, who were more sexist than our parents. always despite being left-wing and all those tragedies we’ve been through,” he explains.

Belonging to a generation of “feminists, very warriors” who had to get strong, the only thing Pilar Eyre lacks from that era is “something very specific and that’s not coming back: my youth.” “I’m not trying to be nostalgic. I’m full of friends, many of them young. One advantage of journalism is that the newsrooms are full of young people with the same concerns as you,” he says.

Pilar Eyre is quite clear about the future of the Royal House.

– Will Eleanor rule in Spain?

-I think so. Years ago I would have said no, but now that Felipe and Leticia are doing well, they are discreet, have completely distanced themselves from all previous wrongdoing, are strict and have committed no unworthy act. They raised their daughters very well. On the other hand, there are many pressing issues that are difficult to change, such as the system itself, which involves canceling the Cortes, reconvening them, holding a referendum on the amendment of the constitution… , if Abu Dabi doesn’t do stupid things and be quiet and don’t travel to Spain anymore, because his last trip was really disastrous, I think we will have kings and monarchy for a while.
