It never hurts to remember around here that streaming services are uploaded or downloaded by the devil himself. I noticed it again a few days ago when Paramount+ confirmed it had given the green light for a new series of episodes of “Frasier,” one of the funniest and most ingenious “sitcoms” on American television.
Raised as a “spin-off” of “Cheers,” “Frasier” took the psychiatrist and patron of the famed bar and moved him to Seattle, where he hosted a radio show answering calls from listeners along with his producer, Roz. Preppy and extremely snobbish, a whopping 11 seasons—he stayed on the air on NBC between 1993 and 2004, picking up 37 Emmys—Frasier lived in a luxury apartment with his war veteran father Martin and his nurse, Daphne.
Much of the comedic situations in this fiction were generated by the clash between Frasier’s mentality and the rest of the characters, who were simpler and often more practical and intelligent. Or because Frasier’s brother, the hilarious Niles, with an even more refined taste and eternally in love with his father’s nurse, the pedantry multiplied a thousandfold.
Although Paramount+, a service not yet available in Spain, has kept quiet about Kelsey Grammer’s return to the role that brought her worldwide fame, it has been leaked that this type of sequel will have about ten episodes. It takes place in a new city, so the psychiatrist will be surrounded by new characters, although the old ones may make an appearance.
Can’t wait to rewatch the old seasons, right? Well, there’s not much to do. The series is not on any platform. Can someone lend me the DVDs?
