Queen Letizia plays at home

Date:

The royal family is already in Oviedo, where the Princess of Asturias Awards will be presented next Friday

Oviedo is already decked out and wearing all his best clothes for the Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony, to be held this Friday at the Campoamor Theater. The Asturian capital is once again the center of attention. All winners are already in the Principality. Also Kings Felipe and Letizia, accompanied by Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia. The whole week was a discourse of winners, press conferences, public events. But if anything kicks off the awards that bear the title of the Crown Heiress, it’s the concert offered the night before every year (except for the fateful 2020 pandemic).

Queen Letizia returned to play at home, in her native Oviedo. And he was praised upon his arrival at the Auditorium of the Palacio de Congresos Príncipe Felipe, along with the king and his daughters.

On this occasion, Carmen Linares and María Pagés, Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts 2022, take the stage in the auditorium. The winners returned together 25 years after their last performance to share the stage, honoring, through a dialogue between song and dance, some of the most representative voices of Spanish poetry. Carmen Linares and María Pagés played different subgenres of flamenco, such as tonás, bulerías, fandangos or tangos. Through this art, they integrated popular songs and poems by Juan Ramón Jiménez, Miguel Hernández, Federico García Lorca, Rafael Alberti, Jaime Gil de Biedma and El Arbi El Harti.

This Friday morning, the day begins with the traditional audience for the winners of the 2022 Asturias Medals; to the winners of the 2021 End of Degree awards from the University of Oviedo; and to the chairmen of the juries of the Princess of Asturias Awards, members of the Board of Trustees and emeritus patrons. It will be at the Hotel de La Reconquista, the nerve center these days of the Princess of Asturias Awards. The King and Queen and their daughters will also receive and greet the winners of this edition one by one, who will receive the Princess of Asturias Foundation award.

In the afternoon, the spotlight will turn to the Campoamor Theater, which will host the ceremony that awards this year’s Carmen Linares and María Pagés, Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts; Adam Michnik, Princess of Asturias Prize for Communication and Humanities; Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, Princess of Asturias Prize for Social Sciences; to the Refugee Olympic Foundation and Team, Princess of Asturias Award for Sports; Juan Mayorga, Princess of Asturias Prize for Literature; Ellen MacArthur, Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation; Geoffrey Hinton, Yann LeCun, Yoshua Bengio and Demis Hassabis, Princess of Asturias Award for Scientific and Technical Research; and Shigeru Ban, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord.
