The IX Villa de Molina 2023 Young Performers Contest significantly increases the prizes awarded to the winners as it will have a national character for higher education for the first time. According to the coordinator of the organizing committee of the competition, José Fernández Lozano, a total of 19,000 euros will be distributed. “It is the only call of this nature to be made in the Region of Murcia and one of the few at a national level,” he noted. In concrete terms, a grand prize of 5,000 euros will be awarded to the winners of the two modalities piano and strings. The second placed will receive 3,000 euros and the third will receive 1,000 euros.
To this is added a special Virginia Martínez Fernández Prize for interpreters born, living or studying in the Region of Murcia, endowed with 1,000 euros. The registration period is open until December 21, 2022. The competition rules can be found on the website www.concursovillademolina.com. This competition, promoted since 2008 by the Villa de Molina Young Performers Contest Federation in collaboration with the Molina City Council, is biennial and the call has always been aimed at students from Murcia conservatories or those born in the region.
From now on, the competition is annual. There will be a regional appeal for vocational education in even years and a national competition for higher education in odd years, as will be held in 2023. In Spain there are 92 conservatories of higher education. The artistic direction will once again be in the hands of Virginia Martínez Fernández from Molin, chief conductor of the Youth Orchestra and the Symphony of the Region. The final gala and award ceremony will take place at the Villa de Molina Theater on February 25, 2023. There will be an accrediting diploma for all finalists.
