Alfonso Albacete’s new film will hit theaters on February 17

Date:

The Murcian filmmaker and screenwriter returns to the big screen with “the project of my life”, ‘La novia de América’, with Lumbrerense actor Ginés García Millán leading the cast

The return to the big screen of director and screenwriter Alfonso Albacete (Murcia, 1963), recognized for films such as ‘Sobreviviré’ and ‘More than love frenzy’, ‘Solo química’, ‘Lies, y gordas’, already has a date : the Friday 17 February. ‘La novia de América’, a comedy filmed in Mexico starring Ginés García Millán (‘Who killed Sara?’) from Lumbrero in a leading role, will hit Spanish cinemas as one of the most refreshing proposals of the first quarter of the year.

A production by Tornasol (Spain) and Animal de Luz Films (Mexico) with the collaboration of Movistar+ and Latido Films in charge of distribution, with Miren Ibarguren, Ginés García Millán, Pol Monen, Eduardo Casanova, Pepa Charro starring Diana Bovio , Christian Vázquez and Maribel Guardia. In an interview with LA VERDAD in 2021, Albacete acknowledged that this project was “one of the cinematic experiences of my life”. A comedy filmed in the middle of a pandemic, with a technical team of 90 professionals (and zero infections), in real environments where history vibrates, such as Xochimilco and the historic center of Mexico City.

The film, the filmmaker told this newspaper at the time [
‘La novia de América’]He talks about something closely related to his family. “My father [Ceferino Albacete] He called me one day to invite me to his wedding, he had just met a Mexican woman who was 30 years his junior, and she was getting married. And the movie is based on this story. In fact, Ginés García Millán is the father of this family from Murcia that is leaving for Mexico. Not only is this project a breakthrough in my career, but suddenly on set people were talking about Murcia all the time, which was really nice. Ginés has a Murcian accent, something I love, I’d seen it in series before, and here he’s doing a Murcian from the city, from the capital, and it’s hilarious. The filmmaker’s father was actually outside the plan: “He didn’t find out until the first article about the film came out. I kept it a secret because it’s best not to talk about the movies until they come out, but now he’s very supportive of me. I don’t know what he will think when he sees this love story.

‘La novia de América’ tells the story of Ana, a young Spanish woman who has just been dumped by her boyfriend and Tono (her brother) receives surprising news: her father marries a woman he met online. “They decide to travel to Mexico to attend the wedding, but what they find there is not what they expected. Rous, the bride, is not only younger than her, but her large Mexican family, from a popular and noisy neighborhood, led by Lupe (the mother), has prepared a welcome for them that they will never forget in their lives. Especially Ana, who will meet Horacio, the bride’s irresistible brother, a Mexican who is able to make her very… very nervous. Both families will have to overcome prejudices and cultural clashes to discover that love can be the difference.”

At the moment only the trailer is known and we will have to wait until February 17 to learn more about this story that mirrors Spain and Mexico.
