Agoney triumphs in the first semi-final of Benidorm Fest with Alice Wonder, Fusa Nocta and Megara

Date:

Thursday is the second semi-final and Saturday the final

Agoney, Alice Wonder, Fusa Nosta and Megara are one step closer to securing a ticket to Liverpool on May 13. Although he starts as a favorite for now, Agoney. The artist yesterday won the first semi-final of the Benidorm Fest 2023 in a gala where joy, emotion and nerves took over a Palacio de Deportes l’Illa de Benidorm vibrating with music for all tastes and stagings as diverse as they are ostentatious. And it is that the proposals ranged from pop to rock -the first time at the festival and with a good evaluation- and even trap, indie or flamenco. A whole mishmash of music styles that dream of improving, or at least repeating, the great success that Chanel achieved last year at the Eurovision Song Contest and that last year won its one-way ticket in the first edition of the restored festival.

To the rhythm of Diva, Mónica Naranjo kicked off the festival from which the representative of Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest will leave next Saturday. A performance that was quite a statement of intent of what the fans of the festival were going to experience during a night that, as expected, did not take long to recall the great success achieved by Chanel and the nerves experienced during the voting. And while it was Agoney who won the judges’ vote, giving him 86 points, it was Alice Wonder who won the demoscopic vote and ended up taking second place.

But the score didn’t stop the canary and ex-Operation Triunfo member from losing his first place and winning the first semi-final with 161 points thanks to his song “I want to burn”. Dressed all in red, Agoney represented his own hell on stage and filled with agility and warmth a moment he already dreams of singing in Liverpool. But he still hasn’t secured it, although it’s already on display in the UK. Apart from the four participants who leave the second gala of the semi-final next Thursday, he has to compete against Alice Wonder again.

From singing last summer during the state tribute to the victims of covid-19 to moving all the authorities gathered in the Royal Palace, Alice Wonder brought the festival’s most intimate proposal to Benidorm. He took the stage with “I would like to”, to stop the clock in Benidorm and make an astonished crowd feel that he took second place with 119 points.

The transvestite Sharonne was in charge of opening the second edition of the competition in the purest Drag Race style with «Aire», a song composed by her, a diva who took the stage with a song full of intentions and a clear message: «the confidence”. But that he failed to stay with the four favorites, but had to settle for sixth place. Something that had already been sensed hours before the race, such as the position of Aritz Aren, a participant who was not was far from controversy due to statements about other participants, but who tried to surprise with his song “Flamenco”, a song with a doll touch with a Spanish brand and lyrics in ‘spanglish’.

It was of course the first time that rock was considered as Spain’s representative at the European festival and the innovation seems to be well received. They got through to the finals of the Spanish festival Megara, a group that bet on futurism and the metaverse with «Arcadia», but which will last more than a nanosecond at the festival.

Still, the bet of the possible representatives did not disregard what was being talked about. Or rather play. And it is that many of the performances reminded that those already represented other years. That is to say, the Eurovisivas, although enlivened by the melancholy and intimate touch of Alice Wonder and her song “I would like”, gained ground at a gala that was full of protest messages.

But not only the nine artists who defended their proposals took the stage. The singer and songwriter Edurne, the young Ibizan instagramer and tiktoker Leo Rizzi and the contest host himself took the stage to liven up an evening as much as expected and enjoyed by Eurofans.

It will be Thursday when, although not in this order, in the second semifinal they sing Alfred with “Since you are”, Blanca Paloma with “EAEA”, E’FEMME with “Uff!”, Famous with “La Lola” , José Otero with “Winters on Mars”, Karmento with “I want and duel”, Rakky Ripper with “Traction”, Siderland with “Que esclati tot” and Vicco with “Nochentera”. Like the first, it can be followed on La 1 and RTVE Play, at 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, February 2.

Where there are no developments compared to the previous edition, it is in the voting system: 50% of the result depends on the vote of the jury and the other 50% of the audience (25% of the televoting plus 25% of a demoscopic vote). sample ).
