The versatile artist, associated with the region for numerous projects, lived in Ceutí with her daughter María to paint ‘My Metaphysical Garden’

The versatile artist Ouka Leele strengthened her ties with the Murcia region 20 years ago. “Murcia inspires me with fertility and abundance. Whenever I come by train, I associate Murcia with the orchard, the garden, the paradise where Adam and Eve lived in abundance, where everything is easy and pleasant. It seems to me a place with a lot of power”, confirmed the artist as she prepared the sketches for the 240 square meter mural with which she filled the Juan Pedro Campillo street in Ceutí in 2003 with color and joy. Until the city of Vega Media He moved with his 12-year-old daughter, María, to create a work that he kneaded every day, every step of the way, rejecting previous sketches and ideas already embodied. “What I want is that it’s not something rigid; I want the wall to be a blank canvas where you can take risks, where to look, where to find something… To make it fresher,” he explains about the constant transformation of his work outdoors. But, he admitted, the one thing he was clear about was that he wanted “the people of the city to feel joy”, he got a big smile on his face.

His link with the Region went much further. By the hand of the publisher Ángel Pina, he illustrated with his drawings and serigraphs ‘El Cantar de los Cantares’, by King Salomón, for the Murcian publishing house Now Ediciones de Bibliofilia, which won the National Prize for the Best Published Books of Bibliophilia in 2022 An editorial adventure continued with another compilation in which the poet Ouka unrolled the verses of 20 of her poems and accompanied them with as many screen prints under the title ‘Floraleza’
