The Mayor of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano, opened on Friday the exhibition “They Called It Mar Menor”, composed of old photographs taken by the Murcian lawyer, politician and photographer Luis Federico Guirao (1848-1921) – who was deputy in the Cortes and a senator del Reino – belonging to the collection of the photographer and researcher María Manzanera. The exhibition, consisting of 40 photographs taken in the 19th and 20th centuries, is located in the Sala Glorieta Uno of the Municipal Council of Murcia and can be visited until Sunday 3 July. Some of the scenes depicted in these photos show fishermen at work and pleasure craft. Next to the only statue that remains of the Torre de la Encañizada that disappeared decades ago and was built to warn of the arrival of Barbary boats.
