Molina de Segura Subirana’s Poetry Awards Already Have Finalists

Date:

The students of the four institutes of the municipality organizing this literary competition choose four works by Fran Barreno, Marina Díez, Antonio Gil Torres and Izturun by Imanol Uracia

The Molina de Segura students who act as jury members in the first edition of the Subirana Poetry Prize for the book published in 2021 by authors of Spanish nationality, chose as finalists ‘Translation of pain’, by Fran Barreno (Mueve Tu Lengua); ‘It Will Be the Moon’, by Marina Díez (Mariposa Ediciones); ‘Rock & Soul’, by Antonio Gil Torres (Círculo Rojo), and ‘Rocas’, by Itzurun by Imanol Ulacia (Libros del Aire). The organizing secondary schools (IES Cañada de las Eras, IES Vega del Táder, IES Francisco de Goya and IES Eduardo Linares Lumeras) and the City Council of Molina de Segura will announce the winning book on June 15 at noon in the Salvador García Aguilar de Molina Library, a municipality thus supplementing its commitment to literature with a competition that aims to follow in the wake of the Setenil Prize for Short Stories, considered the Oscar for Short Stories in Spain.

The organization thanks the authors and publishers for participating in the prize, because this first call received a deluge of proposals. The works presented were read by the participating students after specific training and guides on which to base their assessments.

At the suggestion of the organization, another four books receive an honorable mention: ‘Tránsitos’ by Azucena G. Blanco (La Bella Warsaw); ‘The Keys That Saved Me’, by Julio Azor (Editorial Juglar); ‘Male Poetry’, by Luna Miguel (La Bella Warsaw), and ‘A River Passed Here’, by Ángeles Carnacea (Raspabook).

The competition takes its name from the most emblematic irrigation canal in Molina de Segura, a key element in the agricultural life of the municipality. The image of the flow of water symbolizes the evocative power of poetry and its universal character. This prize was intended to promote the reading of poetry among young people in secondary and secondary education and it is an opportunity for cooperation between the four public institutions of Molina de Segura. The principles stipulate that both publishers and authors who wish to participate may submit poems, provided they were published the previous year and the authors are Spanish.
