Thousands of Rolling Stones followers enjoy Britain’s latest show at Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano
Send flats that in the first approach to a The Rolling Stones concert we find a Beatles supporter approaching the ‘enemy’ lines, but that’s rock, it makes no distinction between friends or foes. His name is Álvaro Tarifa, he is 42 years old and he has been “burning the discs” of their satanic majesties for three months. Beware, he confirms that going to concerts like there’s no tomorrow is his thing, but that this is the first of the Stones. “The last time they came I thought I wouldn’t see them, but they gave us this last surprise,” he says. Beside him, Adrián Herrero, 42, nods. They miss Charlie Watts, but as Iván de Rosa, 48, says, he is ‘the law of life’.
Marisa Ramírez claims to be Miss Sixty, as the name of the Stones tour, and gets together with Sheila Morales, 33 years old. For Sheila it is the first time she enjoys a Stones concert, for Marisa the seventh. Both are from Cordoba. “To me it’s something mythical, something you have to see once in your life. It’s the thrill of the first time,” says Sheila. For Marisa it is « a reunion. It had been 31 years since I first saw them. «For me – he continues – it is the music of my puberty and I hope for a very nostalgic reunion». And he confirms that he’s been told for years that it’s the Stones’ last concert “since 91”. “They’re going to die singing, dancing and playing because it’s their thing,” he says.
Emilio González García, 60, prides himself on having a different shirt than the rest of those in attendance. It’s true. He has been to five or six concerts around the world. “It’s like talking about an inventor,” he says, acknowledging that Ron Wood is “a bit of a devil.” “They’ve been saying it’s over for 40 years, but I’ll answer you when I see it jump,” he notes.
They serve the last drinks in Flor Arce, 43 years old; Francisco Platero, 48, and his children Sofía and Nicolás, 21 and 14. All four are from Benidorm, although Flor is from Argentina and has seen the Stones in her country five times. «For me -says Sofía-, it’s been my whole life because it’s my mother’s favorite band and since I can remember I know they are a legend and it’s unbelievable». Amen, Sophia, amen.
