The ceremony will take place on Saturday 11 February in Seville
Never before have the Goyas had so many nominations. In the 2023 edition, number 37, to be held in Seville, the awards expand the number of nominees in all categories to five. Until now, only the best photo nominations had five finalists. In all the others, there were only four contenders to win the prize. The newly elected president of the Academy, Fernando Méndez-Leite, has linked the decision to the quality of Spanish cinema. “It has been agreed in the board of directors that the nominees in each category will go from four to five nominees, a decision that is closely related to the good times that Spanish cinema is going through,” said the person in charge. This opens up more opportunities to join the select group of nominees for the awards, which in itself is a recognition for the different members of the big family of cinema.
The acting categories already had five nominees in 1988 and 1989, although they only had three finalists during the first two editions and later between 1990 and 1997. From 1998 to 2022, there were four nominees for interpretation.
The Academy has also confirmed the date of the celebration: on Saturday 11 February, Seville will host the award ceremony for the second time in the history of the award ceremony. It will be the largest edition of the 36 that have been held to date, with even more actors and actresses walking the red carpet.
