Yann Tiersen, minimalist music

Date:

By 2001, the Breton Yann Tiersen had already had a respectable musical career, but few outside his country knew him. That year ‘Amélie’, the film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, was a real hit and with it the soundtrack that was precisely signed by Tiersen. It was difficult for him to survive a success, so in addition, he strayed from his usual jobs. Not only has he managed to survive, but he has also been able to bury that memory and bring his music closer to a much wider audience.

His minimalist, ethereal music is very close to nature. There is much of that cold Breton character, introspective and magnetic in the instrumental pieces of this undeniably skilled composer, gifted at composing his works from minimal melodic patterns and evocative on every beat. The creator of the soundtracks of ‘Amélie’ or ‘ Goodbye Lenin!’ now comes with a new show in which he takes the stage as the only protagonist with an arsenal of synthesizers. The show will consist of A/V, electronic music and light shows. Under his arm he carries the dazzling beauty of records like ‘Kerber’ (2021) and his new album, ’11 5 18 2 5 18′.

Singer and songwriter Lido Pimienta (Barranquilla, 1986) defends motherhood and the fight against discrimination based on race or gender with her songs. Moreover, the music of this Colombian defends the Latin identity in areas of different cultures. Something she herself preaches in her daily life, as she has lived in Canada since she was twenty-one. In his host country, he achieved international fame in 2017, after his album ‘La Papessa’ was voted Best Canadian Record of the Year, with the Polaris Music Prize.

A self-produced and self-published album. Also reaching the milestone of choosing an album sung entirely in Spanish for the first time; compete with figures like Leonard Cohen or Feist. In 2010 he released another album, ‘Color’. And in mid-2020 her third LP, ‘Miss Colombia’, with which she arrives at La Mar de Músicas. A work produced by Matt Smith (aka Prince Nifty) expanding on his narrative of his dual Colombian-Canadian identity. This created a new and ambitious sound palette that reflects his affinity with names such as A Tribe Called Red, Tanya Tagaq, MIA and Cardi B. His music with an Afro-Colombian accent mixes elements of traditional roots with others from electronica.

Carlota Cabrerizo arrives at La Mar de Músicas with her first studio album: ‘Good and bad Decisions’. The proposal of this twenty-year-old from Cartagena is presented as a revelation in the Spanish underground pop scene.

Seven songs that spring from the memories and experiences of the summer of 2019: an unforgettable kiss, all those things we do not say because of the brutality of its dimension or those sensations that bathe every cold and hidden corner of our being with a summer sunset. A repertoire to which presentation singles such as ‘Tus puñales’ or ‘En tu piso’ are added.

He is part of the young voices that raise the flag of music in the Dominican Republic. The formation is the union of three girls from Santiago de los Caballeros who fuse electronic music with Caribbean rhythms.

Since their inception in 2015, they have released three albums, touring a dozen countries and bringing the futuristic sound of the Caribbean to some of the best festivals in Latin America and Europe. The tropical atmosphere is successful in countries such as Mexico, Chile or Colombia.
