Three injured – sports boat collides with passenger ship on Danube

Date:

A passenger ship and a pleasure craft collided on Saturday evening on the Danube in Linz. The boat then drifted around on the river, unable to maneuver, and three people were injured.

The captain of the passenger ship reported to the police that he had lost sight of the pleasure craft after the collision at 10:40 PM. He therefore assumed that it had sunk with the crew. The result was a large-scale operation.

Taken in tow
Shortly afterwards, however, the damaged sports boat was noticed by police officers without lights and unable to maneuver, and drifted at the level of the entrance to the winter harbor of Linz. The fire brigade took it in tow and brought it to the jetty in the winter harbor. There, the three injured passengers – a 48-year-old woman from Gmunden and two from Linz (41 and 54) were first helped by the rescue team.

alcohol in the blood
The 54-year-old skipper said he did not see the passenger ship’s light tag, after which his boat collided with the ship. After the collision, both starboard hulls scraped against each other.

The collision was so violent that the boat was badly damaged and everyone on board was injured. An alcohol test performed on the 54-year-old showed a value of 0.56 per mille.
