Exhibition. The center organizes workshops and guided visits to ‘From Spain With Design’, which showcases creations by regional and national artists
In the film ‘From Paris with love’ (2010) –’From Paris with love’– John Travolta takes on the role of Charlie Wax, a unique American secret agent who carries out a risky mission in Paris. Other than the title, the film has nothing to do with ‘From Spain With Design / Identity and Territory’ – ‘From Spain with design’ – the exhibition on view until September 14 at the Museum of Science and Water in Murcia.
‘FSWD’ is a project of READ, the Spanish network of design associations, and has been jointly designed as a tool for the projection of Spanish design at national and international level. The exhibition brings together design projects from different areas that stand out for their quality, their projection on the national and international market, a model of synergy between designer and company, for giving coherent answers and construction value. An exhibition whose common thread consists of five thematic axes: ‘Identity and territory’, ‘Intersections’, ‘Internationalisation’, ‘Sustainability’ and ‘Complicities’.
An exhibition that arrived at the Murcian museum on June 23, after traveling through Santiago de Compostela and Aveiro (Portugal) and which will later travel on to Valencia. With over 130 pieces, the exhibition varies from city to city, with an emphasis on the designs of regional creators. In the exhibition is the film ‘Detrás. What we don’t see from what we see’, a documentary directed by the designer and publicist from Cartagena Jorge Martínez -responsible for campaigns such as ‘Pills against the pain of others’ by Médecins Sans Frontières, or the solidarity shirt by Pau Donés under the motto ‘ Life is urgent’ – about creative Spanish cuisine. The ‘packaging’ of the multidisciplinary designer Eduardo del Fraile is also on display. Superpower clothing from Constanza+ has their niche: wearable technology, interactive design and smart clothing, and furniture from Cartonlab, whose axis is sustainability.
In addition, the Murcian studios and companies Achodoso Estudio, Artsolut Estudio, Beltá&Frajumar, Casaú Estudio, Clavel Arquitectos, F33, Grafyco, Inma Bermúdez, Las Culpass, Paparajote, Pedro Luis Alba, Romualdo Faura, Rubio & del Amo, Tobal Sánchez and Xli participate +Thinking.
‘FSWD’ is an exhibition where everything has a place. There are books, chairs, an umbrella or a bicycle. There is also a large colorful mural consisting of 51 posters and other ideas that mainly help to improve the lives and health of others, such as the interventions of Arauna Studio and Rai Pinto to improve the experience of children in hospitals, glasses for blind by Alegre Design that transforms the surrounding 3D space into intuitive sounds or the association’s project The ABC that saves lives, AED Training Box, a solution designed in cardboard pieces to learn and train the use of the defibrillator. It also includes experimental projects of a remarkably sustainable character, such as that of the Galician Amalia Puga, who presents a chair designed and made with fishing nets.
The Museum of Science and Water has prepared a series of activities to take place this summer to make the most of the exhibition. The workshop ‘Design and science artist expansion’ will take place on 28 and 29 July. Author games designer Chari Cámara will deliver the workshop, designed for children between 9 and 14 years old, presenting an approach to sustainability and the circularity of ‘artivism’ – art and activism – and claiming design as key to the eco-social transition. The game will form the backbone of a workshop that uses elements of participatory art and which will have its final phase in the Creative Plant. This new cultural and associative space in the Carmen district has a screen printing studio. Registrations in the mail hola@mekiplay.com.
On the other hand, a series of guided tours by different creators is planned: on August 30 at 10 am and on September 2 at 10 am by Pedro Sáez (Monnou Studio); on September 2 at noon and on September 6 at 6 pm by Teresa Jular (Xli Design+Thinking). In addition, the talk ‘GEN-Graphics in black. Myths and truths of design with a gender perspective’, on September 8 at 6:00 PM, by Pilar Larrotcha and Sonia de la Iglesia (Paparajote Studio) and Mari Carmen Esteve (Today is the day).
On September 9, at 10:30 am, Pedro Luis Alba’s ‘Good practices in contracting design’ round table will take place; and on September 14 at 10 am, the Pact for Design will be presented, an initiative for the creation of a National Design Strategy that increases the impact of design in various areas.
