The XXXI edition of the contest of Habaneras and polyphony of Totana will be celebrated this Friday, in the outbuildings of the parish of Santiago, in Plaza de la Constitución, from 9.30 pm.
It is an event with a long tradition in the municipality, which returns after ten years of hiatus to emphasize Totana’s close attachment and value to this popular music of Cuban origin.
The event will feature local choirs Santiago and Vox Musicalis, as well as internationally renowned groups Coral VokalArs from Madrid and the Mérida Chamber Choir from Venezuela.
The history Totana associates with the music of Havana dates back to post-war times, when working women sang loudly in warehouses. In 1981 the first competition of Habaneras de Totana started under the name Concurso Local de Habaneras and has had different names since then.
