The main character of ‘Grease’ has been battling cancer for 30 years
British-Australian actress and singer Olivia Newton-John died Monday at the age of 73 surrounded by family and friends at her Southern California ranch, according to her husband, John Easterling.
Newton-John died ‘after a 30-year journey from cancer’. “He has lost his battle with metastatic breast cancer,” said a source close to the family, quoted by US tabloid news portal TMZ.
The actress is known around the world for her lead role in the 1978 musical film ‘Grease’, alongside John Travolta. Her role as Sandy made her famous with songs like ‘You’re the One that I Want’, ‘Summer Nights’ or ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’.
He previously had musical successes such as ‘If Not for You’, ‘Let Me Be There’ or ‘Have You Never Been Mellow’. After ‘Grease’ he made films like ‘Xanadu’ and established himself with songs like ‘Physical’ from 1981.
In 1992, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but it was waived. She was hospitalized again in 2013 and they managed to stop it, but it resurfaced in 2017.
