On Monday, two German friends went on a tour together to a waterfall in Umhausen. One of them may not come back.
A fatal canyoning accident took place in the municipality of Umhausen on Monday around 2.20 pm. Two German friends, aged 70 and 68, went on a canyoning trip near the Gehsteigmurbach waterfall.
Accident unclear
They were equipped accordingly and rappelled down the waterfall as planned when the 70-year-old fell in the area of the second rappelling station for reasons not yet elucidated.
Paramedics couldn’t do anything more
The man fell about 40 meters down. He sustained fatal injuries. The emergency department of the alarmed emergency helicopter Christophorus 1 could only determine that a death had already occurred.
The mountain rescue services Umhausen and Oetz, the police helicopter, the doctor and the police forces of PI Oetz were also deployed.
