And they gave us two and three…

Date:

The traditional migas camperas closed the semi-finals of the singing competition, held under the watchful eye of the legendary Fosforito

I don’t know what must go through his mind when the cantaor comes on the podium of Lo Ferro, knowing that in the front row he has seats in the front row of maestro Antonio Fernández Díaz ‘Fosforito’, the creator of that cante por ferreñas, and he row enters third of that text: «The sweetness of the melon/The cante of the ferreña/Phosforito gave him the gift/The soul and the review/and Escudero the heart».

Every singer knows that he is facing one of the greats in the history of flamenco and that he has the last Golden Key of Cante (in 2005), a historic prize that has only been awarded five times since 1868. Fosforito, who is about to turn 90, is enjoying it. Camarón was awarded it posthumously in 2000.

Obviously I don’t like posthumous awards and yet from here I join those firms that ask the Andalusian government to hand over the sixth key to the great Enrique Morente, who already earned it in his last years of life; Some samples of his cantes can be heard on that double album with the guitar of maestro Sabicas.

Let’s go back to those cantaores who left their hearts on Friday evening in the semi-final, under the attentive observation of maestro Fosforito. And let’s record his passage through that stage, in order of performance: first Francisco Javier Heredia Hernández, from Jaén, did it with the guitar of Antonio Carrión, who sang the caña, taranta and granaína y media. The second participant was Antonio Haya Morales, from Córdoba, with the guitar of Antonio Migueles, with minera, with cartagenera, soleá and alegrías. The third participant Gregorio Moya Lara, who came from Ciudad Real, with the guitar of Niño de la Era, did it with soleá, ferreña and alegrías. The fourth participant, Baldomero Cortés Heredia, from Almería, with guitarist Ramón Rivera, sang soleá, minera and alegrías. The fifth cantaor was Iván Segura Ruiz, from Alicante, with guitarist Antonio Fernández ‘El Torero’, for tientos tangos, minera, granaína and media. The sixth participant was Francisco Ocón Cuadrado, from Córdoba, with the guitar of Antonio Fernández ‘El Torero’, who sang por granaína, ferreña and martinete. And finally, José Antonio Romero Pérez, from Cádiz, with Antonio Carrión on guitar, closed the semifinals with ferreña, tangos and petenera.

Antonio Haya, Francisco Heredia, Francisco Ocón Cuadrado, José Antonio Romero and Iván Segura advanced to the final.

The festival awarded its gold medal to the artistic, literary and scientific center of Granada, which was collected by the president, Celia Correa Góngora, in recognition of the work of promoting and disseminating culture that they have carried out since 1895; also, coinciding with the centenary of the Granada Cante Jondo Contest, organized by this entity in 1922.

While the jury was due to deliberate, the Mamen Baños Company offered us a colorful and emotional exhibition with its students, with more than twenty children, including three of their children; and some suggestive choreographies with the adult students and with his company he danced bulerías, farruca, tangos and alegrías, with the vocals of Rocío Martínez, with the dancing and clapping of Ramón Fernández and Guillermo Ramos and the guitar of Juan Antonio Mateos.

“And they gave us ten and eleven, twelve and one. And two and three hours… This is what Lo Ferro has to offer. And those things and that cante por ferreñas was written by Juan Miguel Roca Martínez, secretary of the Peña Melón de Oro, in his book ‘En Lo Ferro yo me quedo’.

And in addition, we queued up to pick up the traditional migas camperas with grapes, which are made for all the public who want it. And there in line my friend, the writer Manuel Moyano, asked the teacher Fosforito: «Which one is your favorite?». And the teacher replied: “I never give an opinion, partly because I could have disagreements with the jury”. I also don’t do it while they compete, because the thing can have its crumb too. By the way, the extraordinary crumbs.
