A South Belfast mother who started her own business while on maternity leave and confinement wants to help other women.

Claire McDermott, a mother of two with a one-year-old son, Zane, and three-year-old daughter, Miley, has always dreamed of starting a children’s clothing business, and now she’s doing so.

A 36-year-old girl wants to inspire other moms to do what they want in life and never feel like it’s too late.

After the birth of her baby girl, she considered quitting her job to pursue her passion, but she felt it was not the time.

Claire, originally from Co Tyrone, just started maternity leave and gave birth to her baby in June 2020. Living in Belfast, she has taken advantage of maternity leave, although it is closed almost everywhere.

Instead of seeing locking as a problem, the former market researcher saw this opportunity and started dreaming of running a clothing business in reality.

With her hands perfectly full, she began researching her new project in her sleep and with the help of her husband, Liam, created her own website.

The Little Wild Bears started in November 2020 and Claire has decided not to return to her research work.

She is now preparing to celebrate her first birthday and has nearly 5,000 followers on her Instagram, with requests from all over the world, including Australia.

Claire, who does all the work herself and makes sure her business is as sustainable as possible, said she’s glad she made the leap.

She added, “I’ve always loved dressing like most girls, I loved it and then had a baby girl and was obsessed with her clothes and loved casual stores like Zara and H&M and the Scandinavian vibe and neutrality. Toni.

“I couldn’t always get what I wanted, so I thought I could do it myself, but I dared to go back to my research work. I’ve talked to a lot of mummies who have all these great ideas, but don’t – nothing stops them – and I think, maybe that’s something in your thinking, but society also creates the way we think.

“My morals are with my clothes, a lot of them are big and sophisticated, which helps to wear them longer. I always say I love it when I hear other mummies hand things over to other siblings. I really want to help slow down baby fashion.”

“When the pandemic broke out, I was fired, I was dangerously pregnant with Zayn and I was in the maternity ward, something changed in my mind and I was released.

“It was all done in my sleep, when I was so sleepy. It was just a passion that drove me to do it and I wanted to create a different way for me and the kids. I love my balance now, it’s hard, but I love it.”

Belfast’s mother explained how this dream came true.

Claire said, “I’ve had so many friends and family who have supported me and continue to support me. It was amazing and now we’re looking back a year later.”

“I’m also planning to create my own range. It’s a dream come true for me in the footsteps of a child. It all happens at once and it’s exciting because I love supporting the little one.” [businesses] yourself. I just feel proud.

“If nothing else, the pandemic has just shown me that people’s thinking has changed, that their lives have changed dramatically, and for me it was just a matter of having confidence and believing that if you had such an epidemic in your head asking you to do something, you had to. Make time for him Make sure that’s what you want This is the most important thing because you have to have that passion Just go.

“I know many mummies think they can do something, but they think it’s too late. Do it. I’m happy to inspire other mummies as I try.”

“The social aspect of Instagram – I’ve met other mummies who run businesses and I’ve never imagined meeting friends. It’s also good that we foster and support each other.

“Northern Ireland is very nice right now because there are a lot of mummies in this area and it doesn’t look bad, it’s all very favorable.

“I’m really proud… Looking back, I can’t believe I made it, especially with so little sleep.”

Claire is now preparing to open its first stores as part of anniversaries in Belfast and Armagh.
