Officers from the Northern Ireland Police Service (PSNI) were patrolling a western Belfast suburb on Wednesday night after evacuating homes on Tuesday night when a “working device” set off a security alarm.
Residents of Moore Park Mews had to leave their homes for several hours during the alert. And last night on Twitter, PSNI said the West Belfast District Police squad was “ongoing patrol” in the area.
“The West Belfast District Police Team continues to patrol the Moorpark Mews area. Please report any suspicious activity,” Twitter said.
Police officers and ammunition technicians are on site, and the facility has now been declared as a viable instrument and has been moved for further inspection, PSNI Inspector Motri said Wednesday. Temporarily evacuees returned to their homes and cordons were removed.
“I’d like to thank the locals and everyone who has been a bit of a hassle while we work to secure the area. I also appeal to anyone with information, or who has witnessed something suspicious, to call us at 101 on 05/22/22 with 1,770 citations.”
